At Home Hair Removal Methods and Products 2023

Hello Beautiful! Summer is here and that means it’s time to show those legs! It also means those legs need to be hair-free and silky smooth so let’s explore all the different hair removal methods and the best products this summer.

hair removal

Lets start by examining the different methods of removing unwanted hairs:

Razor Shaving

We are all familiar with this method of removing unwanted hairs. It’s fast and effective but can become such a daily chore during the summer months not to mention expensive to keep buying disposable razors and then there is the environmental factor to think of too. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 2 billion razors are thrown away each year!

Using razors can also cause the skin to become dry and there’s always a risk of accidentally nicking oneself and band aids are not a pretty summer look. There are so many different styles and brands of razor available on the market check out these:

Electric Razors – I’m personally not a fan of electric razors but there are some good ones on the market. See above.

You need to look for the waterproof razors as these give the closest shave.

Electric razors are great for those who like to customize their bikini line.

Epilators

Epilators work by grabbing the hairs and pulling them out from the root effectively tweezing them therefore it takes longer for hairs to grow back and doesn’t need to be done as often as regular shaving.

The downside is that it hurts a little, sometimes a lot. Some of my friends love the feeling as its similar to tweezing eyebrows. I’m not so convinced myself. If you feel like giving epilating a try here’s a very highly rated product;

Waxing

Waxing is most commonly done in a salon but there are now really good at home waxing kits that save you the time and cost of constantly going to the salon. Not to mention the embarrassment. The good news is that it’s easy to deal with your fuzzy bikini line at home now.

Expert tip: Lightly apply baby power and then take a cotton bud and wipe it off. The baby powder absorbs any moisture and will help the wax stick better so you get the desired result on the first pass.

BLITZWAX Waxing Kit

This home use hard wax kit includes an LCD DIGITAL Wax Warmer, effective home wax with 5 bags of hard wax beads (3.5 oz. each), 20 pcs wax strips, 2 pairs of waxing gloves, Pre-Wax Oil and Post Wax Oil (3.38 oz.ea), 10 large wax sticks and 10 eyebrow waxing applicators. Everything you need to avoid expensive trips to the salon.

Hair Removal Creams

These can be hit or miss.

Hair removal creams use chemicals such as Potassium Thioglycolate and Calcium Hydroxide to dissolve unwanted hairs.

My friend absolutely swears by this product to remove the carpet of hair from her husbands back! It really works and its kind on sensitive skin and reading the Amazon reviews she is not the only one who loves its quick removal of man back hair!

It comes in a spray bottle for easy dispensing, simple to apply and remove without any danger of nicks or bumps.

Dermatologically tested the hair removal cream is especially designed for sensitive skin.

Can be used for legs, arms, underarms and bikini hair removal. It’s also scented with the perfect fragrance of vanilla and passion fruit.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

More and more people are turning to Intense Pulsed Light products for a more permanent hair removal method. It does take around 12 weeks to start seeing proper results.

IPL used to be done with a massive machine the size of a small refrigerator and was only available in salons and was quite costly. With recent technological developments at home hand held devices are widely available and do exactly the same thing for a fraction of the cost.

How does it work? Intense Pulsed Light uses warm gentle light to break the cycle of hair regrowth and put the hair to sleep. Gentle, painless pulses of light are applied at the root and, after 8-12 weeks treatments, hair is prevented from growing back, leaving you feeling more confident and permanently hair free.

IPL hair removal devices are effective on naturally dark brown, brown and black hair and on skin tones from very white to light brown. The downside is IPL cannot be used to treat white, grey, blonde or red hair and is not suitable for very dark skin.

Summary
